The 2005 Gath of Baal International Jousting Tournament

Since 1993 the Free Lancers have held the Gath of Baal International Jousting Tournament Memorial Day Weekend in Texas. In 2005 the Tournament moved to the Tennessee Renaissance festival.

The Free Lancers have extended invitations to all known joust troupes both domestic and foreign. Competitors from Belgium, Canada, England, France and Norway have expressed interest in attending.

The 2005 Gath of Baal International Jousting Tournament

Saturday May 14 - Equestrian games* and the novice division for qualifying for the full contact jousting.

Sunday May 15 - The professional full contact jousting competitions will begin in the French style (with shields).
Saturday May 21 - The professional full contact jousting competitions continues in the Northern Italian style
Sunday May 22 –The finals with Freestyle jousting (Freestyle jousts to be from Plankengestech, Welschgestech and Realgestech.)
This type of tournament gives everyone the same advantages and disadvantages, as well as allowing the audience to experience the differences in techniques required to achieve points.

The games are:  

1. Spear at Quintain
2. Javelin
3. Heart of the Tartar
4. Sword and Ring
5. Lance and Rings
One point will be awarded per captured object.

Lots will be drawn to see in which order each knight will joust.

Championships are awarded for each of the equestrian games and all three professional divisions. And a Grand Championship will be awarded to the jouster with the highest accumulative score in the professional competition.

SCORING SYSTEM
Touch +1 Breaking a lance by sweeping 0
Breaking a tip +3
Throwing a lance at a squire -5
Breaking a lance +5
Hitting a horse #1 -10
Tip to Tip +5 each
Hitting a horse #2 Disqualification
Unhorsing +10 The highest score possible for a single pass is 10 points.


FREE LANCERS

INTERNATIONAL JOUSTING TOURNAMENT STYLES

FRENCH .......................................with emblazoned shield, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s shield in an attempt to unhorse him
NORTHERN ITALIAN .................without benefit of shield, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s unprotected breastplate or helm in an attempt to unhorse him
PLANKENGESTECH....................with plackards added, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s breastplate in an attempt to unhorse him.
WELSCHGESTECH .....................with grand guards & buffs, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s grand guard in an attempt to unhorse him
REALGESTECH ...........................with gridded grand guards & buffs, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s grand guard in an attempt to unhorse him.
OPTIONAL FREESTYLE
SOUTHERN ITALIAN .................without shield and passing right shoulder unto right shoulder, placing the lance at a more direct angle of five degrees and attempting to strike the other knight’s unprotected breastplate or helm in an attempt to unhorse him. This is the hardest hitting of the various styles
